Over time, people have told me about Facebook pages and Instagram accounts that they use when traveling around Nepal. I honestly wish I’d known how useful social media in Nepal was prior to my first visit. In America, I almost never use Instagram, but in Nepal it’s full of useful information. I’ve found tons of amazing restaurants, read about Nepali culture, and discovered treks I’d like to do all with the help of Instagram. Not to mention, I’ve had tons of questions which have been answered through various facebook groups.
Nepali Foodies on Instagram
If you want to know where to eat and what to order, you need to check out these Instagrammers. The foodies on Instagram do not disappoint. While there are a lot of up and coming accounts, there are a few that I follow regularly and often take recommendations from. These are locals who know all the best places to eat. They leave honest reviews and list the price of the items. Some even provide a pic of the restaurant’s menu. The best part is that they recommend dishes that I didn’t know to try, so it’s a great way to see what a dish looks like before ordering it. These are my favorite accounts on social media in Nepal for food…

Nepali Culture on Instagram
If you want to know more about the culture in Nepal, then there are a few great accounts to check out. Stories of Nepal tells individual people’s stories. This is a brilliant way to learn about different people all over Nepal with a small paragraph about each person featured. Some of the stories are heartbreaking and others are uplifting, but they all give insight into life in Nepal. Old Nepal talks about the history of the country and shows old photos of Nepal including areas that look extremely different today.

As a foreigner, my account doesn’t exactly fit into the categories above, but I do my best to share my perspective of Nepal. My husband is Nepali, and I love sharing the bits of culture that I get to experience when we travel together. We live in Kathmandu and try to see as much of the country as possible! You can find destinations, trekking info and cultural info on my page.
Facebook Pages for Nepal Travel Advice
Nepal Travel Community
The Nepal Travel Community is a group that I started for those visiting the country. It’s an open forum to ask questions related to travel in Nepal. Other facebook pages are geared more towards budget travelers and I wanted to create a space for everyone from budget to luxury. I moderate the group to ensure that it doesn’t get spammed and to keep everything on the topic of travel. I’ve also invited my local and expat friends to ensure that those asking questions can also get feedback from those who live here!
Nepal Backpackers Club
I found the Nepal Backpackers Club page from a fellow traveler and was so shocked I didn’t find it sooner. People post on here looking for trekking partners, basic advice, hotel recommendations, etc. It’s a great way to meet up with people who are in the country at the same time or get advice from those who have been there before. The group is run by a trekking company, so take guide recommendations with a grain of salt.
Used Trekking Gear Nepal
Used Trekking Gear Nepal is exactly what it sounds like, a place to buy and sell used gear. The first time I came to Nepal I was on a 9 month trip through Asia. Most of the countries I went to were tropical and I carried a small backpack the entire way. I really couldn’t fit trekking gear in there, and honestly, I didn’t want to drag it around for months either. So, this is an awesome way to get stuff when you arrive and sell it when you leave.
